NOTE: If this is your first time listening
to a podcast and you aren't sure what a podcast is, check out our "What
Is Podcasting?"
section
now and then come back here to find out what type of browser plug-in
or software you need to set-up to receive our podcasts.
Our Artist Directory
To begin with, if you find
that podcasting sounds like more than you want to tackle, or if
you don't like the idea of adding more
plug-ins or software to your system, you always have the option
of using our artist directory. It's
a listing of all the artists we transmit in our feeds and links
to their artist pages on this site. So if you decide to not go
with podcasting, you can always come here and get the music directly
from our site. Please note that all of the mp3's posted are two
minute versions of full songs. We've done this in support of
the musicians. If you like what you hear, please purchase their
music!
Software Options
To receive a podcast, you will need to use either
a podcast receiver or an RSS reader.
* Podcast Receiver
This type of software automatically downloads your selected
podcast's audio files to your system. Using one of these software
packages facilitates mp3 device loading. You can select to have
the downloaded audio files played automatically in iTunes or Windows
Media Player, or loaded into an attached iPod or any other portable
mp3 device.
Our choice of podcast receiver software is Juice.
It is very user friendly and free.
* RSS Readers
While most people picking up podcasts use podcast receivers, our feeds work
fine with RSS readers. However, in most cases, your downloads with not be
automated. You will have to initiate them manually. Because there are so
many RSS readers we will not go into details. Be sure to read the help menus
and note that there are some out there that have special features for podcasts.
* For more information about podcast receivers
and other related software, visit PodcastAlley.com.
Our Podcast URL's (For Manual Input)
Whether you're using either a podcast receiver or an RSS reader,
you can add our feeds directly to your program by typing the
following url's where appropriate:
For Rock/Pop/Alternative music, type http://www.indiepodcasting.com/podcasts.xml
For Hip-Hop/R&B/Urban music, type http://www.indiepodcasting.com/urbanpodcasts.xml
If you're using a podcast receiver that's not integrated into
your browser and attempted to open our feed by clicking on the
buttons on our home page, you probably got a bunch
of code in your browser. You'll need to enter the feed
url's into your software manually.
Podcast Updating
One thing to remember is that
once subscribed to a podcast using either an RSS reader or a podcast
receiver, the podcast feed updates itself when new artists are
added, which is usually every day. You can set it up to be automatically
updated at given
time schedules, as long
as
your
RSS reader or
podcast receiver is active. You can even set it up to retrieve
updates and/or downloads as you sign in to the internet. With cable
or DSL, which are "always on" formats, that means the
updates come as soon
as
you turn on your computer. If you leave your computer on at night,
you can have it retrieve update while you sleep and the new music
will be there in the morning.
